Performance Automatic Torque Converters

Torque converters are generally grouped by size (diameter) and stall speed. As the diameter of a torque converter decreases, the stall speed (RPM) goes up. Most factory torque converters are 12-13 inch in diameter and have a stall speed around 1600-1800 RPM. This promotes excellent fuel economy and drive-ability because they are specifically designed for these purposes. The problems arise when modifications are done to the fuel system, camshaft and other engine control systems. Smaller diameter converters are needed to provide more slip at idle. This allows engines with a lot of camshaft to idle better. As the torque converter and horsepower range is moved higher through the RPM range, the smaller torque converters with their higher stall speeds provide maximum torque multiplication where needed. Also the same torque converter will react differently when used behind different engines. So make your converter selection with the help of qualified personnel. Performance Automatic has endless converter combinations to make your car or truck perform at its utmost potential.

11" Converters
Built from racing traditions, our 11" converters are built to take the punishment. Fully furnace brazed with extra bearings and balanced to provide years of dependable service. This is the famous 11 inch converter that is our hottest selling street/strip converter. Designed to give approximately 1000 rpm stall over a stock converter, this unit will provide greater launch, and low end power. It is designed to withstand the punishment of full-throttle starts.


10" Converters

Performance Automatic has recognized the importance of building a full race, 10 inch converter that is affordable to all. Our 10 inch Pro Launch is designed to be used in conjunction with high compression, nitrous oxide, bigger duration cams, and stout gear ratios or supercharged and turbo applications. Stall speeds of 1000 to 2000 rpm over stock converters can be expected. Additional cooling is a must. These converters are just the ticket for street applications provided with proper cooling and gear ratios. Just bolt in and hang on!

9" Converters

Custom designed for better lock-up and MPH, our 9" delivers optimum performance with nitrous and blower applications. Torque monsters can also benefit from superior stator configuration and anti-ballooning plates. Very popular in True Street, this converter is a must for those who still take their race cars for an occasional cruise. A wide variety of custom stall speeds are all available.

8" Converters
If you want to reduce reaction times, this is the converter for you. Designed for full-throttle, transbrake, pro-tree operation; this unit will give you the edge over your competition.
